TITONTON DUVANTE
With a musical history spanning back to the early 90’s, as co-creator of the seminal techno band Body Release (alongside Todd Sines, Charles Noel and Mike Szewczyk), and on through a multifaceted career as a composer, recording artist, producer, remixer, record label owner and DJ, Titonton Duvante continues to evolve creatively. As a DJ known for blurring the boundaries of electronic music genres, Titonton deconstructs, blends and rebuilds beats with his special brand of funky turntablism. He’s brought his extraordinary style to nightclubs around the world: from Detroit and San Francisco to Berlin, London, Paris, Warsaw, Copenhagen, Sao Paulo, San Juan, Tokyo and beyond.

Titonton has released an arsenal of music on labels such as Palette, Environ, 7th City, Planet E, Sonar Kollektiv, 2000 Black and Bitasweet to name a few, in addition to his own label, Residual Recordings. He’s done collaborative work with contemporaries such as John Tejada, Fabrice Lig and Morgan Geist. Titonton’s remarkable reputation has earned him an entry in Tim Barr’s book, A Rough Guide to Techno, as well as a mention in Dan Sicko’s book, Techno Rebels. Recently moving to New York City from his native Columbus, Ohio, Titonton has been working in the studio, with forthcoming releases on Residual, Frankie,7th City, Corner,Planet Harrier, Manuscript, Open Concept and Boogizm Recordings.

ARCHETYP
Harlem-based electronic music producer Charles Noel, aka Archetyp, has worked quietly behind the scenes of electronic music for the past 20 years. Charles has performed and DJed in various venues around North America and Europe, including performances at the SONAR festival in Barcelona, Spain, after-hours at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, and as a rotating resident for the “Colors” series in New York City. His music expanded farther east in 2002 with a tour of Japan with Fumiya Tanaka and label-mate Ricardo Villaobos, where he headlined at the world-famous Liquid Room in Tokyo.

He also founded 2122 Corporation releasing multiple singles and EPs featuring artists like Dan Curtin, Morgan Geist, Titonton, Todd Sines and Nu Era (4 Hero). In 1995, Charles releases “Reconnaissance,” under the Monochrome alias, considered one of the first U.S. jungle EPs released. Launching his Archetype alias shortly after to cultivate his love for House, Deep Techno and Hip-Hop. His current work presents a unique blend of Classic Funk sensibilities with the spirit of Detroit Techno and West London Broken Beat fused with Deep House melodies. Considered by his peers as a forward-thinking future music producer in NYC, Archetyp’s music has been charted world-wide and can be heard from influential labels such as Raw Fusion, Moonstarr’s Public Transit Records, Cookin, Bagpack and more. Charles is a certified Ableton Live instructor and teaches electronic music production, DJing and performance at the School of Audio Engineering in NYC.

TODD SINES
From the flat fields of Ohio to the concrete jungle of New York, Todd Sines’ environments; real and virtual, have served as inspiration for his unique, hybrid sound. His post punk, industrial, and hip-hop upbringings, filtered through an obsession with analogue and early digital technology, resulted in stripped down electronic funk; before minimal was mnml – it was just effective. Through his techno band, Body Release, with key Ohio players Titonton Duvanté, Charles Noel [Archetyp] and Mike Szewczyk, they dabbled in early rave sounds before embarking on their own paths. Todd’s introduction in early 1993 to Detroit’s Carl Craig and Daniel Bell resulted in seminal releases with Peacefrog, Planet E and 7th City by year end.

Catching the ear of Richie Hawtin, “boiling point” was featured on his debut mix CD in 1995 on Mixmag. Soon after, releases on Andy Vaz’s Background Records and Titonton’s own Residual brought his sound to house and techno aficionados worldwide. Since his move to New York in 2003, he’s worked with a variety of other artists, including !!!, Death in Vegas, Liquid Liquid’s Sal Principato and Apollo Heights; he’s remixed Alexander Robotnick, Paul Randolph, Robert Owens, Moonstarr, Adam Marshall, Lanoiraude and more. With his recent material with Natacha Labelle on Frankie, he pushes the boundaries of house music, and with the resurrection of his .xtrak alias on YORE, his return to jackin’ minimal funk reminds people of where it all started. His new studio will yield another layer to his established track record, now forging new trajectories in post-punk, no-wave and experimental indie rock.

DEGO
Dego is the alias of Dennis McFarlane. Hailing from London, UK, now based in Brooklyn, NY, he is probably best known as part of 4 Hero (which he forms together with Marc Mac). He has been making music for years, with his style evolving from Drum ‘n Bass to the Broken Beat style which is most evident in his present releases. He has been active in numerous other groups, including DKD, Plutonia, Nu Era, Da One Away and Silhouette Brown. He has also released music as a solo artist under aliases like Cousin Cockroach, Pavel Kostiuk, Nutmeg and MM Black.

ISRAEL VINES (Borrowed Language, Los Angeles)
In addition to being a talented DJ who understands recontextualization as well as the difference between playing records and mixing them, Borrowed Language label-owner Israel Vines is as passionate and enthusiastic about electronic music as anyone you’ll find. Currently based in Los Angeles but a Midwesterner at heart, Israel discovered techno music as so many growing up in Michigan did: via the sounds of the Belleville Three and Underground Resistance. He started DJing soon thereafter, and was later instrumental in throwing the ‘Real-ism’ event in Lansing, which featured Jay Denham, Robert Hood, and Dan Bell. Moves between Chicago and Detroit followed, and included a three-year stint at Gramaphone Records, a Chicago institution where the likes of Derrick Carter and DJ Heather cut their teeth. Like Surgeon and Rob Hall before him, Israel’s approach to DJing is all-inclusive, incorporating classics, house, techno, and dubstep rhythms into the fold to create a sound that’s far from purist — and Borrowed Language’s future releases look set to reflect this open-minded, eclectic aesthetic as well.

PATRICK RUSSELL (Borrowed Language, Mentalux, New York)
When it comes to DJ bios, it’s become de rigueur to refer to a veteran DJ with catholic taste and flawless technical abilities as a ‘DJ’s DJ’ — in fact, it’s something of a cliché. But make no mistake, Michigan-based Patrick Russell is the real deal. Conversant in everything from early electronic music to Chicago house, Detroit techno and disco, Patrick’s hypnotic sets frequently encompass all of these genres, creating a whole much greater than the sum of its parts. A DJ for well over 15 years, Patrick has not only opened for a veritable who’s who of techno acts, he has recently established himself as a budding producer of formidable talent. In addition to working on re-edits of classic tracks for his own use, Patrick co-produced the ‘Valt Trax’ EP with Seth Troxler, which was charted by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Dan Bell, and Cassy. Patrick’s inaugural release on Borrowed Language is forthcoming, promising to showcase his more techno-oriented interests and production.

KARL MEIER (Fear of Music, Chicago)
A life-long devotee of electronic and experimental music, Karl P. Meier discovered Chicago house and Detroit techno in the early nineties, and the rest, as they say, is boring. Determined to prove that dance music could be art, and more than just escapist fare, he developed a DJing style (opening for artists such as Surgeon, Monolake, and Jeff Mills) that looks to the future while being influenced by the music of the past, exploring the grey area between the physical and the cerebral and focusing on dynamism, subversion, and recontextualization. Karl’s most current release, a collaboration entitled ‘The Great Traitor’, released on the Remnant imprint, was widely acclaimed and features a remix from Robert ‘Monolake’ Henke.

KEN MEIER (Fear of Music, New York)
Playing electronic music since 1995, Ken Meier picked up his first pair of decks at the impressionable age of fourteen. Alongside his older brother and long-time collaborator, Karl, Ken cut his teeth at various parties in and around the midwest, including performances at large-scale events such as Direct Drive, Even Furthur, and Sector 616. He has also hosted weekly shows on Chicago radio stations WNUR and WHPK. Not content with just DJing, either, Ken has worked at the legendary Gramaphone Records, and thrown parties under the monikers Interrupt Media Group and Fear of Music. His events have featured sets from Surgeon, Anthony Shakir, Derrick Carter, BMG, John Roberts, James Ruskin, Spencer Kincey, and Function, among others.

ALEX MOH (Pulled Pork, New York)
With no allegiance to anything but techno, New York based Alex Moh, aka Gunnie, is on a musical mission to change your mind. Proficient in musical comprehension, classical violin, and push-ups, this man is positively unpredictable behind the decks. Some may even say mentally unstable — but the risk to be perceived defines the duty to be obeyed. Drawn by low-slung, sleazy sounds, balmy grooves, and high hats, Alex Moh has curated the nefarious Pulled Pork New York parties, including the disco-oriented Interrobang and the soulful PYT series.

Jacques Renault; Figure it out.

Jacques Renault has worked with countless artists from conception, development to final production bringing his strongly aligned tastes in disco and house to the table. A true musician who followed his heart into the realm of dance music, he leaves a marker of his own taste, feeling & emotion on everything he touches. He’s held residencies at many famous New York venues, traveled the world around DJing with some of the finest talent, and is involved with more record labels than you can swing a stick at. I’ve found at least 7, but I’m sure there’s more. And each one has its own unique and developed backstory. On The Prowl, DFA, Rekids, Wurst, I’m a Cliche, Chinatown and RVNG.

We are nothing short of ecstatic that he’s agreed to play the last of the interrobang parties at Bedlam this Friday, May 20th. We trust that he’ll bring in the May 21st apocalypse with a bang. CORGI PICTURES will be hosting the evening and is joined by resident DJ Gunnie.

Mark Palgy, a founding member and bassist for dance-punk success VHS or BETA, will be presenting a collection of music intended for guests of Bedlam Bar & Lounge who may consider eschewing New York City’s cabaret laws by both cutting rugs and shaking butts. Palgy has been quite active as of late, with rumoured upcoming releases expected from both VHS or BETA as well as a solo release with his good friends at Throne of Blood. Not to mention his recent co-production of a track by Hussle Club called Quaranteenagers. We can expect a continuation of his dance sensibility on Friday. CORGI PICS will be hosting the evening and is joined by resident DJ Gunnie.
